Kundalini Yoga
The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit word "jugit." This ancient term is also the derivative of the word "yoke," which refers to the wooden contraption that was used to fasten two or more oxen together so that they could work in tandem to pull a plow or cart. As a result, goals that could not be reached by an individual alone were met successfully by the team. Yoga can be described, then, as a technology that unites body, mind, and spirit rather than permitting them, even unconsciously, to remain at odds with each other. Through the process of yoga; these three separate, but linked, identities are harnessed together to be employed towards the greater goals of the person at large. Yoga bestows clarity, confidence, and connection to the practitioner, and can be of use to anyone wanting to improve their lives.
Kundalini Yoga is an ancient practice, dating back thousands of years. This method of yoga was brought to America by Yogi Bhajan, a yoga master from India. In psychotherapy, we inevitably set targets and goals but the issue is always, "How to get from where I am to where I want to be?" The techniques of Kundalini yoga, practiced regularly, are another vehicle to help us on our way to our goals.
